Capture two-way pedestrian and vehicle traffic with the 55″ Interactive Outdoor Kiosk (Double-Sided, RTD2556) — purpose-built for thoroughfares, central pedestrian zones, transit platforms, parking structures, mall corridors, and urban plazas where content needs to be visible from both directions simultaneously. Two 55″ Full HD displays — one on each face of the IP65 weather-resistant enclosure — each deliver a remarkable 2,000 cd/m² brightness for genuine sunlight readability, with 100,000-hour LED lifetime supporting continuous outdoor operation. 3.0 mm toughened cover glass with UV/IR reflection coating, 7H surface hardness, and IK08 impact protection withstand weather, sun exposure, and the vandalism risks inherent to public outdoor placement.
The 10-point projected capacitive touch panels on each side support natural interaction with unlimited lifetime touch points, integrated with the Realtek® RTD2556T monitor controller and faytech’s Clear Bond® optical bonding. The kiosk is configurable as monitor-only (drive from external content sources via 2× HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 per side), or with an optional internal PC: Mini-ITX Intel® Core™ i5 / H610 for graphics-rich applications, or Intel® Celeron® J4125 / H610 for cost-effective digital signage. Free-standing on stabilizing feet, with optional bolt-to-ground installation and optional canopy for additional weather protection. CE and FCC compliant.
The 55″ Interactive Outdoor Kiosk (Double-Sided, RTD2556) is faytech's purpose-built two-way visibility outdoor kiosk — engineered for the deployment scenarios where pedestrians, drivers, or both approach the kiosk from opposing directions and content needs to engage all of them simultaneously. Where single-sided outdoor kiosks work for wall-adjacent, corner, and one-directional placements, the double-sided configuration captures full thoroughfare traffic: central pedestrian zones in shopping districts, transit platform islands where passengers approach from both directions, parking structure pedestrian aisles, mall central corridors, urban plazas and squares, drive-through lanes with vehicle and pedestrian traffic, and any public space where the kiosk sits as a freestanding feature rather than against a wall.
Two 55″ Sunlight-Readable Displays
The kiosk integrates two independent 55.0″ TFT-LCD displays, one on each face of the enclosure. Each panel delivers 1920×1080 Full HD resolution at 2,000 cd/m² brightness — substantially above the 250–500 nits of indoor displays and even the 1,000 nits typical of "outdoor-rated" signage. 2,000 nits is genuinely sunlight-readable: content remains visible under direct overhead sun at midday, in reflective glass-faced building atria, and against bright sky backgrounds where lesser displays wash out completely. The 178°/178° viewing angles maintain image quality from approaching foot and vehicle traffic at any approach vector, and the 100,000-hour LED lifetime supports continuous 24/7 outdoor operation — over 11 years at full-time service. Response time is 6/9 ms, refresh rate appropriate for the video and animated content typical of outdoor digital signage. The V-by-One display interface supports reliable high-bandwidth signal transmission inside the kiosk chassis.
Both displays can show identical content (synchronized digital signage), independent content (different messaging by direction of approach — useful for transit platforms with inbound/outbound passenger flows), or rotating playlists with different scheduling per face. Operational decisions about how the two sides are driven depend on whether the kiosk is configured monitor-only (external content management drives each side via its own video inputs) or with the optional internal PC (single PC drives both sides through HDMI 2.0 outputs).
Outdoor-Engineered Cover Glass
Each display is protected by 3.0 mm toughened glass with several layers of outdoor-specific engineering: UV/IR reflection coating reduces solar heat absorption (critical for thermal management in direct-sun deployments), 7H surface hardness resists scratching from windblown dust and debris, IK08 impact protection tolerates the inevitable bumps and occasional vandalism risk of unattended outdoor placement, and 90% (±5%) cover glass transparency ensures the 2,000-nit panel brightness reaches the viewer rather than being absorbed by the protective glass. faytech's Clear Bond® optical bonding eliminates the air gap between touch sensor and LCD panel — meaningful in outdoor contexts where temperature swings, condensation, and humidity create environmental challenges that air-gapped displays cannot survive.
Outdoor Touch — Engineered for Real Conditions
Each side features a 10-point projected capacitive multi-touch panel with unlimited lifetime touch points. PCAP touch is specified deliberately for outdoor commercial use: it works through gloves (winter weather, work gloves, sanitary gloves), tolerates rain and water on the surface without false-touch issues, and provides the responsive feel that customers expect from modern smartphone interaction. Optical bonding additionally reduces parallax errors and improves touch accuracy under varying lighting conditions.
IP65 Weather-Resistant Outdoor Enclosure
The chassis is constructed from aluminum and sheet metal, finished in black, achieving IP65 protection — complete dust ingress protection and water-jet resistance from any direction. This rating covers rain, snow, sleet, pressure-washing cleaning protocols, and the year-round environmental exposure of outdoor public installations. Operating temperature range is -10°C to 60°C with 10–90% humidity tolerance, suitable for most climate zones outside of arctic and extreme desert conditions. The cabinet includes a lockable side-access door with two keys — important security for unattended outdoor placement, providing service access to electronics, internal PC (if configured), and connectivity panel without compromising the IP65 sealing during normal operation.
External case dimensions are 1948 × 900 × 220 mm. The 220 mm depth is meaningfully thicker than indoor kiosks of similar display size — necessary to house the thermal management, electronics for two displays, optional internal PC, and weatherproofing required for genuine outdoor deployment. Free-standing on stabilizing feet is the standard configuration; an optional bolt-to-ground configuration is available for permanent installation where vandalism risk or theft prevention is a deployment concern (additional bolts available as accessories).
Connectivity & System Architecture
The kiosk runs on a Realtek® RTD2556T monitor controller with standard firmware. Per-side connectivity includes 2× HDMI 2.0 inputs, 1× DisplayPort 1.2, 1× USB 2.0 Type-B (for touch return to host PC), 3.5mm headphone output, RJ45 for external IR remote controller, and a COM serial port for retail/transit control system integration. The COM port is operationally significant: many transit agencies, retail chains, and municipal deployments standardize on RS232-based central control systems for power scheduling, remote diagnostics, and content management — and outdoor kiosks specifically need this integration capability that consumer-tier signage lacks. AC input is 100–240V at the 700W operating power consumption (approximately 350W per side), with under 1W standby consumption.
Two 8Ω 4W loudspeakers handle audio for video signage and confirmation tones. The dedicated headphone output supports private audio for individual customer interaction (useful for wayfinding with audio prompts in transit, multilingual menu navigation, and accessibility audio descriptions).
Configurable as Monitor-Only or with Internal PC
The kiosk is offered in three configurations to match different deployment patterns:
Configuration 1 — Monitor Only: Drive both displays from your own external content sources, media players, or digital signage controllers. Appropriate when the buyer has existing signage infrastructure, when each side needs independent content management from separate sources, or when content production happens centrally and is distributed to many kiosks.
Configuration 2 — Mini-ITX Intel® Core™ i5 / H610: Internal PC with 8 GB RAM, 120 GB SSD, Intel® AC 3168 Wi-Fi, Windows 10/11. Appropriate for graphics-rich content, animated wayfinding, interactive applications, web-based content management systems, and signage requiring meaningful local compute. The i5 platform handles both displays simultaneously without compromise.
Configuration 3 — Intel® Celeron® J4125 / H610: Cost-effective internal PC with 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD, Intel® AC 3168 Wi-Fi, Windows 10/11. Appropriate for standard digital signage workflows: looping promotional content, schedule-driven playlists, basic interactive flows, and applications where the cost differential matters at scale.
Optional Canopy
An optional canopy accessory is available, mounted above the kiosk to provide additional rain and direct sun protection. Worth considering for deployments where the kiosk faces direct overhead sun for extended periods (which can stress thermal management even on IP65-rated outdoor displays), where rain protection during cleaning and maintenance is valuable, or where the canopy provides additional weather shelter for customers actively using the kiosk. Confirm canopy availability and pricing at quote stage.
Important Deployment Note
Direct sunlight management is critical even for sunlight-readable outdoor kiosks. While the 2,000-nit brightness and UV/IR coating handle direct sun better than indoor-rated displays, prolonged unbroken exposure to direct sun can push internal temperatures beyond specified operating ranges. Best practice: orient the kiosk so direct sun does not strike either face for extended midday periods, or specify the optional canopy for full-day sun exposure deployments. Operation outside specified temperature ranges is not covered by warranty.
Hypothetical Application Scenarios
Transit Platform Islands — Inbound/Outbound Passenger Information: Picture a train or light rail platform with passenger flow in both directions. The double-sided kiosk sits in the platform's central pedestrian island, displaying inbound train schedules to one side and outbound to the other. The 2,000-nit brightness handles platform-canopy lighting and glass-roof solar penetration; the IP65 rating tolerates the cleaning protocols of high-traffic transit infrastructure; the COM serial port integrates with the transit authority's central control system for schedule updates and emergency messaging. Side-access door allows maintenance without disrupting passenger flow.
Parking Structure Pedestrian Aisles: Multi-level parking structures often have central pedestrian aisles with vehicle traffic on both sides. A double-sided kiosk at the elevator lobby or main aisle entrance displays available parking levels to one face and wayfinding to the elevator/exit to the other. The IP65 rating handles the temperature extremes typical of unconditioned parking structures, and the 100,000-hour LED lifetime supports the 24/7 unattended operation that parking infrastructure requires.
Shopping District Central Plazas: Urban retail districts and outdoor shopping centers can install the double-sided kiosk in central pedestrian plazas where shoppers approach from multiple street entries. One face shows directory and store finder; the other shows promotional content, events, or local restaurant recommendations. The 2,000-nit brightness handles direct outdoor sun in plaza settings; the optional canopy provides additional weather protection for shoppers actively using the kiosk during rain or intense midday sun.
Drive-Through Lane Self-Service: QSR drive-through lanes with multiple ordering positions can use the double-sided kiosk between adjacent lanes — one face oriented to each lane. Each customer interacts with their own touch interface from their vehicle, with content tailored to their lane's queue position. The sunlight-readable brightness handles direct outdoor light; the IP65 rating tolerates rain and pressure-washing cleaning. The optional bolt-to-ground installation provides the security and structural permanence appropriate to permanent QSR infrastructure.
Mall & Shopping Center Central Corridors: Indoor mall central corridors with double-direction pedestrian flow can use the kiosk for directory wayfinding (one side facing each direction of traffic), promotional advertising, and event information. While the kiosk is rated for full outdoor use, it also performs well in semi-outdoor mall environments where overhead skylights, glass facades, and entrance proximity create lighting conditions that defeat conventional indoor signage.
Airport Terminal Walkways: Airport terminal pedestrian walkways with high passenger flow in both directions can deploy double-sided kiosks for gate information, flight status, terminal wayfinding, and concessions advertising. The 100,000-hour LED lifetime, IP65 rating (tolerating airport cleaning protocols), and 24/7 operation rating match the operational demands of major airports. The COM serial port supports integration with airport central information systems and flight information display systems.
Municipal & City Government Wayfinding: City governments and municipal authorities can deploy double-sided kiosks in town squares, government building plazas, tourist information areas, and downtown pedestrian zones. One face provides municipal services information and wayfinding; the other displays events, tourism content, or public service announcements. The CE and FCC compliance, IP65 outdoor rating, and 24/7 operational capability match the procurement requirements typical of public-sector installations.
University Campus Central Quads: Major university campuses can install double-sided kiosks in central quads, library plazas, and main pedestrian thoroughfares — providing wayfinding to one direction of student traffic and event information to the other. The 100,000-hour LED lifetime and 24/7 capability support the year-round operation appropriate to active campus environments.
Hotel & Resort Property Wayfinding: Large resort properties with multiple buildings and outdoor pedestrian flow can use double-sided kiosks at central pathways and pool/restaurant intersections — providing property wayfinding to one direction, amenity information and events to the other. The IP65 rating handles resort weather exposure including poolside humidity and outdoor service environments.
