The 8″ Capacitive Touch PC X6413E (Small Case) is a compact, 4:3 aspect ratio industrial touch PC in faytech's Atom-based Small Case Touch PC family — engineered for deployment scenarios where the 4:3 aspect ratio matches existing industrial software design and the compact form factor fits space-constrained installations. The combination of a small ~200 × 160 mm chassis footprint with a true 4:3 industrial display is uncommon in the market; most compact industrial touch PCs have followed the consumer transition to widescreen aspects, leaving an underserved gap for facilities and OEMs whose existing software was designed for 4:3 panels.

Why 8″ at 4:3 XGA Specifically

The 4:3 XGA (1024×768) aspect specification is the long-established standard for industrial HMI software interfaces — the format around which SCADA clients, PLC programming environments, machine control software, equipment OEM interfaces, and legacy industrial applications were originally designed. Running this software on widescreen panels creates real operational issues: stretched graphics, unused screen real estate, broken alignment of fixed-position controls, and disrupted operator pattern recognition.

The 8″ size at 4:3 XGA serves several specific deployment patterns:

  • Equipment OEM integration: Industrial equipment manufacturers whose existing HMI software was designed for 4:3 panels can refresh their hardware platform without rewriting their software.
  • Compact industrial controls: Small machine control stations and dedicated function HMI positions where space is limited but legacy 4:3 software must run correctly.
  • Educational training labs: Industrial automation training programs that teach using the 4:3 industrial standard hardware students will encounter in industry.
  • Replacement deployments: Refresh hardware for existing 8″ 4:3 industrial panels that have reached end-of-life.

Intel Atom Industrial Compute Platform

The platform is built around the Intel® Atom® x6413E processor from Intel's Elkhart Lake family — a modern Quad-Core x86 SoC designed specifically for industrial IoT, edge computing, and dedicated-function commercial deployment. The Atom x6413E offers a deliberate balance of performance and power efficiency: enough compute headroom to run modern industrial software, web-based HMI applications, and the multi-tab browser stacks common in current commercial deployments, while keeping power consumption to just 12.8W total system draw.

Paired with 8 GB DDR4 RAM and a 120 GB SSD (proper SSD, not eMMC), the platform handles industrial control software, signage management systems, kiosk applications, and modern web frameworks without compromise — appropriate to the focused, dedicated-function workloads typical of compact industrial deployment.

Operating System Options

Debian 12 ships pre-installed as standard (note: Pyramid Computer GmbH is not affiliated with Debian; Debian is a registered trademark owned by Software in the Public Interest, Inc.). Additional OS options available on request (with additional fee): Linux Ubuntu 22.4 LTS for the broader Ubuntu ecosystem alignment, Windows 10 for legacy Windows industrial software (particularly relevant for the 4:3 deployment context, where much of the legacy industrial software runs on Windows), and Windows 11 for current Windows commercial software.

Display Specifications

The 8.0″ display delivers 1024×768 XGA resolution across a 162.05 × 121.54 mm active area, in 4:3 aspect ratio. Brightness is 350 cd/m² — appropriate for indoor industrial environments and brighter than typical 7"-class displays. Contrast is 800:1. Viewing angles are 170°/170° — wide and symmetrical, supporting shared viewing during operator training and supervisor review. LED backlight lifetime is 20,000 hours.

Touch System

The 10-point projected capacitive multi-touch panel is built on 1.1 mm thermally strengthened cover glass with AG (chemical etching) anti-glare surface treatment, IK08 impact protection, and faytech's Clear Bond® optical bonding. The EXC81W60 touch controller communicates via USB. Touch resolution is 29 RX × 22 TX. The optical bonding eliminates the air gap between touch sensor and LCD panel, improving optical clarity, reducing reflections in industrial lighting, and increasing mechanical durability against operator impacts.

Industrial Connectivity

The 8″ Touch PC provides comprehensive connectivity despite the compact form factor:

Network: 2× 10/100/1000 Mbit Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 ports (Realtek® 8111H) supporting network segmentation common in industrial OT/IT separation. Wi-Fi via Intel® AC 3168 module with included RP-SMA female antenna. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is available upon request.

USB: 2× USB 3.0 (high-speed peripherals: external storage, barcode scanners, instruments) + 2× USB 2.0 (standard industrial peripherals).

Video Output: 1× HDMI + 1× DisplayPort for external display extension.

Industrial Serial: 1× RS-232 COM port (RX/TX only, DSUB9). Note: This is a single COM port — the 7″ sibling (FT07X6413ECAPOB) offers 2× RS-232 if dual serial connectivity is required for your application. Standard RS-232 pinout: Pin 2 RXD1, Pin 3 TXD1, Pin 5/10/11 GND.

Additional connectors: 1× Audio In/Out (Realtek® ALC897 Audio CODEC), 1× SD card slot for local data logging and removable storage, 1× SIM card slot for cellular connectivity in installations where Wi-Fi/Ethernet isn't appropriate.

Modular Front Kit + Small IPC Back Kit Design

This product implements faytech's modular Front Kit + Back Kit architecture, with the Small IPC Back Kit (X6413E) shared across the Atom Small Case Touch PC family:

  • 8″ Rubber Frame Front Kit: Contains the 8″ 4:3 XGA display panel, projected capacitive touch sensor, cover glass with Clear Bond® optical bonding, rubber frame structural assembly, and the IP65 sealing system.
  • Small IPC Back Kit (X6413E): Contains the Intel Atom x6413E compute platform, all external connectivity, network hardware, storage, and the aluminum IPC back case with passive thermal management fins.

The two kits can be ordered pre-assembled (deployment-ready) or separately packaged (for OEM integration), connected through various standardized connectors. Independent replacement during service supports:

  • Compute platform refresh as Intel Atom processor generations advance, without replacing the front kit
  • Field damage replacement of cracked cover glass without retiring the working back kit and configured OS image
  • OEM integration projects where custom enclosures house the back kit separately from the front kit
  • Service inventory optimization with separate kit stocking — the shared Small IPC Back Kit across the Atom Small Case family simplifies fleet inventory management

Note: Front Kit + Back Kit assembly to be done by a professional to maintain IP65 seal integrity.

Mounting

The 8″ Touch PC supports VESA 100 × 100 mm mounting — standard wall-mount arms, articulating mounts, and pole mounts. Note: Clamp-mount open-frame integration is not supported on this size. For machine-integrated installations requiring flush panel integration, custom OEM mounting via the VESA pattern is the recommended approach.

Power & Environmental

The platform runs on 12V DC, supplied by an included 100-240V AC active-switching adapter. Operating power consumption is just 12.8W — exceptionally efficient, supporting battery-backup deployment, vehicle electrical integration, and continuous 24/7 operation with negligible energy cost. Stand-by consumption is under 1W. Operating temperature range is -10°C to +60°C with 10–90% humidity tolerance.

IP65 Front + IP40 Back protection. CE and FCC certified.

Intended use: Industrial-grade touchscreen touch PC for indoor use as control panel, digital signage, wayfinding, POS, and similar applications. Protect from direct sunlight. Operation outside specified temperature ranges is not covered by warranty.

Included in the Delivery

Power adapter (100-240V AC active switching, 12V DC-Out), Wi-Fi antenna (RP-SMA female), short installation manual.
