Reasons why industrial touch screen desktop solutions are becoming more popular

Touch screen desktop system use an electronic visual display called touch screen.

Touch screen PCs are capable of detecting within the display screen the location of a touch. They are commonly designed for operating with a finger. However, a stylus and other objects can be used as well.

Touch screen PCs for industrial products come with many benefits, allowing the user to directly interact with what they see on the screen.

The pros and cons of touch screen desktop systems

Pros:

  • Touch screen PCs provide a more intuitive and quicker way to interact with a computer.
  • A touch screen PC that features stylus pen input provides finer precision.
  • You can draw or write naturally on the screen.

Cons:

  • More smears on your screen
  • The so-called Gorilla arm – getting tired arms after reaching out to touch the screen for a long time
  • Added thickness to the screen
  • Possibly shorter battery life
  • Added cost

How touch-display technology works

There are three main types of touch screen technologies:

Surface-acoustic-wave system

In this system, a touch screen PC uses transducers that transform one type of energy into another. There are two transducers used, one for receiving and one for sending.

They are placed on the touch screen monitor, across the glass. Reflectors are also placed on this same glass. Reflectors are used to reflect the signals between the two transducers.

Touch screen PCs that use this system come with complete light output, making the image clearer to see. This is the best system to use if graphics are necessary.

Surface-resistive-touch system

The monitor in a resistive touch screen computer is made of two main layers.

An electric current is passed through it when the monitor is on. Metallic layers cover the glass, once with the role of being resistive and one being a conductor.

Spacers keep these two layers from touching. A scratchproof layer usually covers touch screen computers in order to protect them from scratches.

Capacitive-touch system

The capacitive touch computer system features a metallic layer above the glass of the monitor. The capacitive system also provides very clear images, being suitable for high graphical images.

When it comes of their price range, the surface acoustic wave touch screen is the most expensive and the resistive touch screen is the cheapest.

Based on these three technologies, there are three basic touch screen computers types: the tablet touch screen, the touch screen laptop, and the touch screen desktop computers.

Why the world is shifting to touch screen desktop technology

Technology becomes more and more interactive as it begins to advance.

Smart technology is becoming more popular and dominant. Industry computer fanless would have been just dream about rugged touch monitor just a few years ago, but now we take them for granted. The world is shifting to this technology because it is much intuitive, easy to use and allows faster interactions with the PCs.

Touch screens have been around a lot longer than people actually remember, but it wasn’t until Apple unveiled their products with a touch screen did they really begin to take off. Now you have many touch screen products on the market, and it’s becoming a natural part of life.
